When people ask how much a trip to Isla Múcura costs, they almost always think of the room rate. But on an island, the budget has more parts: the boat, the park fee, meals and, if you like, experiences. Adding them up from the start avoids surprises at the pier.

In this guide we show you each expense using the hotel’s current rates, how they change for couples or families, and a few ways to save without missing the best of the island.

The costs of a trip to Isla Múcura

A trip to the island has five parts:

On top of that come any experiences you choose to book, which are optional.

Transport: the boat and the park fee

Isla Múcura is reached by boat from Cartagena or Tolú, and the fare is per person:

  • From Cartagena: COP 160,000 one way, or COP 320,000 round trip. The ride takes about 2 hours.
  • From Tolú: COP 90,000 one way, or COP 180,000 round trip. The ride takes about 1 hour.
  • Children: under 3 travel free; from age 3 they pay the full fare.

Each person also pays the COP 31,500 National Park entry fee, once, in cash at the pier. On the Tolú route, add a mandatory insurance of COP 8,800 per person, which the hotel arranges before boarding.

If you bring more than the allowed luggage (8 kg per person plus one personal item), you can leave it in storage: COP 30,000 per bag in Cartagena and COP 20,000 in Tolú, for your whole stay.

Accommodation: how much a night costs

The hotel has 13 room types. The rate depends on the type and the season, ranging from COP 414,000 a night for the Mangrove Room to over COP 2,400,000 in high season for the largest options, such as the Family Pool Villa.

Three things that change your budget:

  • Children: aged 0 to 8 stay free; from age 9 they pay as adults.
  • VAT: the rate does not include the 19% VAT, which is charged at check-in depending on each guest’s documentation. Colombian residents pay it; non-resident foreigners may be exempt depending on their documents.
  • What is not included: the accommodation rate does not include meals or transport.

You can compare all the options and their price ranges on the rates by accommodation page.

Meals: meal plan or à la carte

There are two ways to eat on the island:

  • Meal plan: COP 249,000 per person per day, with buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you add it with your booking, children aged 0 to 8 do not pay for it. From age 9 they pay as adults.
  • À la carte: you pay for what you order at Las Palmas Restaurant and Brisas Bar. For reference, the buffet costs COP 65,000 for breakfast and COP 92,000 for lunch or dinner when paid separately.

If you are traveling with young children, the meal plan is usually the better option, since they eat free when you add it at booking.

Experiences: what you can add

Experiences are optional and paid separately. These are some reference prices:

  • Add the meal plan at booking if you have young children: children under 9 do not pay for it.
  • Check the promotions: the hotel publishes its special rates on its direct channels.
  • Travel outside high season: Holy Week, mid-year and year-end are the busiest dates.
  • Pack light: at 8 kg per person, you avoid paying for storage.

How to pay and what to bring in cash

Your booking is guaranteed with full payment, by credit card or payment link. The hotel accepts cash, bank transfer, PayPal, Wompi and Visa, American Express and MasterCard cards; Diners Club is not accepted.

Bring cash for the park fee, which is paid at the pier, and for small expenses on other islands, since there are no ATMs in the archipelago.
