Choosing the dates is the tricky part of a surprise gift. A few pointers:

• Think first quarter: the special rate applies to stays until March 31, 2027. January, February and March are the dry season in the Colombian Caribbean, with clear skies.
• Keep the unavailable dates in mind: the rate does not apply on public holiday weekends, during the year-end season (December 20 to January 10) or during Holy Week. That makes this a gift to enjoy after the holidays, not during them.
• Find out discreetly: ask about the person’s vacation days or agree on the dates with someone close to them.
• Leave room for changes: the hotel policies allow one date change, with at least 15 days’ notice, for a new date within the following 3 months.
